SaskPower

OPPORTUNITY

SaskPower was seeking ways to help residents find new ways to reduce their monthly energy bills. Considering that lighting accounts for as much as 20% of customers’ total energy consumption, Summerhill decided to focus on energy-efficient lighting products as a cost-effective way to help SaskPower customers save both energy and money.

STRATEGY

Working with SaskPower, Summerhill created the SaskPower Retail Discount Program, a convenient, cost-effective method for customers to improve their energy use while receiving rebate incentives on energy-efficient lighting products.

The program, aimed at residential customers, offers a wide range of lighting products that allow customers to save power with very little effort. The instant in-store rebate provided by SaskPower encourages customers to purchase energy-efficient products including:

  • ENERGY STAR® certified light bulbs
  • ENERGY STAR certified light fixtures
  • Lighting controls
  • Seasonal LED light strings
  • Smart home products

To better educate customers, Summerhill sends representatives to eleven 11 communities across the province to advise customers on the right products for their specific needs. In addition to educating customers on energy-efficient products, Summerhill representatives play an important role in connecting with customers and providing helpful, one-on-one communication customer engagement on behalf of SaskPower.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • 67.4 GWh and 31.7 MW of total energy savings since program inception
  • Educational engagement with over 23,000 customers in 2016 alone
