Job Summary

Reporting to the SVP, Sales and Marketing, the Vice President of Business Development is responsible for the creation, management and achievement of the annual plan and strategy for the assigned Canadian market including oversight of business development, sales, partner alliances and administrative oversight of new Canadian opportunities. The immediate priorities include lead generation, sales presentation, proposal development, account development as well as leading strategies and action plans to create and improve short and long term sales and earnings.

The Vice President of Business Development should embody Summerhill’s reputation as a leading provider of innovative, cost effective and results driven DSM program design and delivery. This role will require an entrepreneurial spirit to build and grow opportunities for an established Canadian firm, including the creation of marketing, sales and pricing strategies, creating new sales, monitoring sales effectiveness and regular sales reporting to the executive team. This role requires strong professional presence, communication, influencing, and organization and planning skills.

Over 50% travel may be required.

Major Responsibilities

Business Development: Act as an external ambassador for Summerhill; expand awareness of the organization and actively engage in lead generation.

Opportunity development

  • Become attuned to the assigned Canadian market to better understand where opportunities lie.
  • Identify and prospect strategic accounts across the customer base to set meetings to discuss capabilities.
  • Work with leadership to implement market-driven strategies to achieve agreed-upon revenue goals and the company’s mission.
  • Develop and oversee partner channels that increase the company’s revenues and exposure to a broad prospect base in Canada.
  • Identify potential strategic partners, alliances and relationships to expand core services.
  • Promote a client-oriented focus and advocate consultative client relationships.
  • Develop and maintain high-profile external relationships within client constituents, professional organizations, etc. (public relations presence).
  • Network with key players in the DSM industry including electric and gas utilities, manufacturers of energy efficiency products and demand response technologies, industry associations, etc.
  • Develop strategy to meet sales targets for growth in existing accounts and new client acquisition.
  • Leads sales approach for each new opportunity including identification, needs assessment, and tailoring service offerings to client needs..
  • Monitor overall client, sector/services/offerings potential as well as opportunity and market and competitor activities to provide insights and feedback to company leaders.
  • Stay on top of industry trends to understand the direction of the industry and the impact on Summerhill’s offerings.

Departmental responsibilities

  • Work with leadership on continuous improvement and standards setting of the sales processes including account planning, new business development, RFPs and revenue forecasting.
  • Accurately forecasts annual revenue streams within Canada.
  • Coordinate with proper company resources to ensure efficient and stable sales results.
  • Work with leadership on new program offerings to expand the business and support the mission of Summerhill.

Knowledge, Experience, Skills Required

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
  • Participative management type—advocates team concept.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to get along with diverse personalities.

  • Proven leadership skills as a business development executive within a complex multi-faceted energy efficiency firm serving the utility industry.

  • Bright, quick, articulate, excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, and able to adapt to different internal and external constituencies.
  • Team player with the independence of thought and opinion to provide candor and honesty when making key business decisions.
  • Passionate about business results, with a strong sense of accountability, metrics and ownership. Strong organizational, analytical and prioritization skills.
  • Proven ability to set and achieve ambitious sales targets, self-motivated and highly energetic

  • Outstanding consultative selling ability and excellent interpersonal skills with executive level customers and partners
  • Experience with specific sales methodologies and sales funnel management

Salary

  • Base salary commensurate with experience plus commission on sales
